New divorce act law in Quebec
In effect as of March 1st, 2021
Our judicial system is constantly evolving and improving. In order to stay current, there are many changes and amendments that can be imposed on certain Acts and Regulations which our attorneys are all aware of and can make sure the right documents are being filed according to the law.
You may have heard that The Federal Divorce Act was amended on March 1st, 2021. If you are in the process of getting divorced, this will concern you. If you have not yet received your Judgment in Divorce, you will be required to sign a Sworn Declaration (Affidavit) stating that you are aware of the changes to the law. The changes that should be noted deal with the obligation to undergo family dispute resolution and that the parties always act in the interest of the children. Your family lawyer can draft a new Sworn Declaration (Affidavit) for you to sign and file into the Court record.
You can be assured that our lawyers always stay up to date with the new laws to insure there are no delays once filing everything into the Court record.
